Starway™ is a Life Transition program (begins at 9th grade education level), 20 competencies — real life preparation, real results — designed for every level of life’s journey—from personal—to school—to work—and well beyond. The material is designed to meet you exactly where you are.
Oh—and by the way—we’ve designed this part of our ecosystem to be a bit mythic in nature. As adults—we’ve learned that sometimes we operate best when there’s a bit of fun/play involved with the work. Starway™ Login
Once registered for Starway™ users are welcome to complete the entire program as designed, skip around, or just participate in the activities or rooms of their interest. It’s free to use and we welcome your friends, family, and “people network” to participate also. We simply ask that all register through Queen Opal. From there, you’ll return to this Starway™ page (be sure and bookmark it) to login/logout and to access all Starway™ program materials, organized in Rooms (1-5). Summary descriptions of each room’s content appears below.
Starway™ Room 1 — Me, My Support, and How I Show Up
At the root of any relationship, be it personal or work, is a self assessment. For some this means determining what skills/resources you bring; for others, it’s what skills/resources need to be developed. And for many — it’s just good practice to begin with “looking in the mirror” first before taking steps in any direction. This room includes activities associated with:
- Getting oriented and building a personal profile
- Mapping your personal support network and evaluating daily life skills
- Discovering your Flock™ Style — the four communication styles — and choosing your character
- Recognizing and communicating across different Flock™ Styles, including the ones that challenge you most
Starway™ Room 2 — My Time, My Voice, and How I Handle Conflict
Most of us would love to live in a world without conflict; however, the very nature of life involves conflict at every turn. It also means — managing yourself, your interactions with others, and your time in a manner that supports the direction you’re headed. This room includes activities associated with:
- Time management and spotting your own time-wasters
- Conflict styles, with real scenario practice
- Finding your voice — citizenship, vocational interests, job levels
- Building a personal Coat of Arms — what you stand for
- Taking on responsibility challenges
Starway™ Room 3 — My Network and My Money
Although many may talk about “Networks”, having someone give you their contact information, being friends on facebook, or chatting about common interest at a game, doesn’t mean they are in your network. This room provides the foundation on which good “Personal/Professional Networks” (i.e., people willing to help you) are built. Additionally, money is discussed with various planning modules, guides, and calculators to help you determine what’s needed to “pay for” the lifestyle you are interested in having. This room includes activities associated with:
- Building a real network — your list, your people, your community
- Making actual contact, not just planning to
- Money basics — what things really cost, budgeting, income, and government supports
- Connecting your interests to income goals
- Planning a real activity and a real budget for it
Starway™ Room 4 — My Future: Career, Resume, and Interviews
It’s never too early to plan for your future, because regardless of where you live, work, volunteer, or hang for fun, the skills you learn in this Room are transferable in many different situations for a lifetime. This room includes activities associated with:
- Career exploration — job types, industry sectors, job levels
- Resume building, samples and building from start to finish
- Cover letters — samples to edit
- Interview prep — mock interviews, a practice question bank, advanced questions
- Bringing your “People Network” into the interview process to help you
Starway™ Room 5 — Launch
Call it finishing, graduating, or a launch; this room recaps your Starway™ journey and prepares you for what’s next. We look forward to hearing how it went and where you’re headed from here.
