I am good at...

Activity 54 — Life Skills Check-In

These are your work-relevant life skills going into the job search.

Activity 55 — Six Job Types

Pick your top 3 — these lead everything that follows in this room.

Activity 56 — Flock™ Touchpoint

Not a lesson — just a quiet nod to who you already know yourself to be, before we dig into job exploration.

Activity 57 — Industry Sectors & Career Exploration

How this works: pick a sector below → explore a few career fields inside it → save the job titles that interest you → pick your job level → get a summary profile pulling it all together in Activity 59.

Do you want to build things, like in construction or manufacturing? Use your social or artistic flair, as in education or media? Help people, like in healthcare or nonprofit work? Or follow rules and precise methods, as in technology or finance?

The 15 Industry Sectors

Pick the one sector that interests you most right now. At the end of the list you can select one industry to explore jobs in for now. Don't worry — you can always come back and view another industry/jobs later.

Career Fields

There are 30 real career fields below, each with real job descriptions pulled from our own job description library — over 1,000 real titles in all. On your first time through, you can explore up to 3 career fields and save up to 2 job titles per field. Come back anytime once you finish this room to explore as many as you'd like.

Pick up to 3 career fields to explore.

Your Saved Job Titles

    Activity 58 — Job Levels

Unless you have previous experience or education beyond high school, the best starting point is usually entry-level. Pick your top 2.

Activity 59 — Career Summary Profile

Look at everything you've built. You know the work you want to do and the field you want to do it in.

    Queen Opal's Checkpoint

What Queen Opal recommends, based on knowing what's ahead — the choice is always yours.

You've got a direction now. Two things left before you're ready to launch: the paperwork, and the interview.

“Room 4 is where we turn that direction into paperwork that works for you — resumes, applications, and the forms every employer will ask you to fill out.”~Queen Opal

Are you ready to move on, or do you need to modify any of your locked in responses?

    Activity 60 — Resume Foundations

This content lives in its own slide deck — resume foundations through networking for a job — not duplicated here.

Review the Resume Foundations slide deck before continuing.

Activity 61 — Build Your Resume

Always keep a working copy, including previous versions — you'll save yourself a lot of time.

For reference only — take a look, then build your own below.

Sample Resume — Entry Level / No Experience

Sample Resume — Experienced (STAR Format)

Experience (paid, volunteer, school, or community)

Include all four kinds — not just paid work.

You will be able to print this and get a pdf after a few more resume building activities.

Once you click Generate, the preview below is yours to edit — click anywhere inside it to make changes. To transfer it to another document (like Microsoft Word or Google Docs): click inside the box, press Ctrl+A to select all, Ctrl+C to copy, then go to your document and press Ctrl+V to paste.

Activity 62 — Words Are Everything

It's all a matter of word choice. Search the list below, then go back and strengthen your resume bullets.

Click any word below to add it to your saved list.

    Your Saved Words

Activity 63 — The STAR Format

Consider the difference between “I fed the animals at the zoo” and “Daily, I managed the food proportions and feeding times for the animals, which resulted in less sickness and the animals being available when clients wanted to see them.” If you were the employer, which impresses you more? No facts were embellished — just explained differently.

S — SituationBriefly describe the context
T — TaskWhat was your responsibility in that situation
A — ActionWhat you specifically did (not the team — you)
R — ResultWhat happened because of your action

This works equally well in resumes and interviews. Even a yes/no interview question can use STAR framing to give depth without rambling.

      Try It

Your STAR Bullets — copy these into your Experience bullets in Activity 64

Action Words You Saved (from Activity 62 — Words Are Everything) — work these into the bullets above

Activity 64 — Review & Lock Your Resume

Review your resume below, then use the button to print it or save it as a PDF using your browser's print dialog.

          Activity 65 — Cover Letters

Every cover letter should be customized to fit the job — and a thank-you note follows every interview, no exceptions.

          • Each cover letter should be 1–3 paragraphs, to the point, and not duplicate what's already on your resume.
          • Include particulars if relevant, like relocation plans.
          • Include only information requested in the ad — like salary history.
          • Bring out key skills that aren't obvious on your resume.
          • Proofread carefully — it's easy to leave in a detail meant for another employer.

Pick a situation to see a sample letter for it, then draft your own below.

          Your Draft

To transfer this to another document (like Microsoft Word or Google Docs): click inside the box above, press Ctrl+A to select all, Ctrl+C to copy, then go to your document and press Ctrl+V to paste.

          Tori's Checkpoint

What Tori recommends, based on knowing what's ahead — the choice is always yours.

A resume that tells your story, a cover letter that fits the job, and words that show what you've really done. Now for the part where the resume stops being a document and starts being a conversation.

“Let's make sure everything you've built here is locked in and ready to go — then it's time to prep for the interview.”~Queen Opal

Activity 66 — EveryBridge™ in the Interview Room

Interviewers often decide in the first 30 seconds about your "behavioral factors," then spend the rest of the interview confirming your skills and experience. During that time, focus on what their Flock™ Style needs to hear — not just what your own style would naturally want to say.

          Activity 67 — Interviews

Phone interviews, face-to-face interviews, and handling yes/no questions all live in their own slide deck — not duplicated here.

Review the Interviews slide deck before continuing.

Activity 68 — Practice: Mock Interview

Answer each question, then reveal the coaching note.

Activity 69 — Practice Question Bank

50 of the most common interview questions. Self-directed — review and practice as many as you want.

Activity 70 — Advanced Interview Questions

These go deeper — what advanced interviewers use to separate candidates. Take them one section at a time.

Activity 71 — Your Network in the Interview Process

By now you've built relationships through Room 3 — your personal network map, community organization connections, and Pop By Plan employers. These aren't just resume lines — they're potential references, referrals, and insider leads.

The volunteer supervisor who saw you show up consistently, handle a difficult situation gracefully, and follow through is your future reference letter.

          Queen Opal's Checkpoint

What Queen Opal recommends, based on knowing what's ahead — the choice is always yours.

Can you describe your Flock™/EveryBridge™ style, answer core interview questions with real examples, hold your own on a tougher question, and name someone in your network to draw on? Completion, not proficiency, is what unlocks Room 5.

Level 1Confidence like this doesn't happen by accident — let's put in a little more practice before you walk in that door.
Level 2You know your style, and you're starting to sound like yourself when you answer. A little more practice and this is second nature.
Level 3You know your style, you know theirs, and you've got real stories ready to back up every answer. Room 5 is open.

Are you ready to move on, or do you need to modify any of your locked in responses?

Clears everything you've answered in Room 4 so you can start it fresh. Cannot be undone.
