Queen Opal Invisible Queen
“Welcome all. You're off to an exciting journey ahead. I'm the Invisible Queen. I'm sure Queen Opal may have mentioned me zooming around on my Harley orange scooter or perhaps you saw one of the photos?”~Invisible Queen
“I did, but I didn't exactly mention your zooming — that one is on you, my friend.”~Queen Opal
“I know there will be times you'll want to give in or give up — but don't. Your commitment to continue is vital to your future success. So on that theme, your journey begins by reviewing your current support system — the web of people around you. Some support is practical, some is emotional, some is professional. Most people don't realize how many people are already in their corner until they start mapping it.”~Invisible Queen
Don't worry if you got something incorrect, you will be able to review and modify your locked in answers at the end of the module or where appropriate in future modules. However, all must be locked in before continuing on to the next module or room.

Skipping this module may affect your future success in the program. However, you can return at a later time to complete this if you wish.

Activity 1 — MatchUp Prompts

Choose as many as apply in each list — there's no wrong answer.

One person who helps me is… (At Home)

One person who helps me is… (At School)

One person who helps me is… (Other Socially)

I enjoy…

I am good at…

Activity 2 — About Me

“Before we go any further, we want to know who you are right now — not your grade, not your role at home, school, or work — just you. Answer honestly. There are no right answers.”~Invisible Queen

How would you describe yourself? (choose one)

What do you like to do? (choose all that apply)

Who do you usually hang out with? (choose one)

Where are you most frustrated? (choose one)

Why are you most frustrated there? (choose the one that fits best)

Activity 3 — Life Level Focus

“It's time to check where your comfort level is before we go further. Simply check what level you think you're at. This is a starting point, not a test. More than one level may be checked.”~Invisible Queen

Activity 4 — Give & Grow™

Time for your first Give & Grow™ baseline — a quick read on your current network before Starway™ goes to work on it. This lives on its own page, not here.

Your Give & Grow™ results have been sent to your email.

Activity 5 — Build Your Support Network

Add at least one person, role, or organization to each of the three groups below.

Personal Support — family, friends, neighbors, caregivers

School / Program Support — teachers, counselors, coaches

Community Support — organizations, faith community, mentors, employers

“Building a support system is one of the things this program helps you do. You are not starting behind — you are starting right here, in exactly the right place. This program is in your corner.”~Queen Opal

Which person do you talk to/see the most?

Is there a type of support you feel is missing?

“Take a minute and reflect on who you believe could help you in this area. Perhaps it's time to reach out and make contact.”~Queen Opal

Activity 6 — Life Skills Evaluation

“For each skill below, mark where you are right now. Choose the option that's most honest. There are no wrong answers — and if any of these feel challenging, that's exactly what this program is here to help with.”~Invisible Queen

        Invisible Queen's Checkpoint

Here's where you are — and what Invisible Queen recommends, based on knowing what's ahead. The choice is always yours.

Does the participant have the functional life skills and support-system awareness needed to progress through Starway™? Completion, not proficiency, is what unlocks Module 2 — the language below is Invisible Queen's encouragement, not a score.

Level 1 — Stay in the RoomStay in this room and do a bit more work. There are people and tools here that will make every room that follows easier.
Level 2 — Your ChoiceYou can stay and add a few more pieces to your Network, or move ahead to Module 2.
Level 3 — No Stopping YouThere is no stopping you. Your corner is stocked, your skills are in sight. Module 2 is open — and your Flock is waiting.
“Well, exciting things are in store in Module 2, because it begins with the real reveal. You'll complete a short behavioral assessment and then meet the Flock™ in person — Eagle, Peacock, Dove, or Owl.”~Invisible Queen

Are you ready to move on, or do you need to modify any of your locked in responses?

(Pause/Resume and saved progress aren't wired to a real account system yet — this session's answers live only in this browser tab for now.)

Activity 7 — Know Who You Are

Time to find out which Flock™ member you are. This part happens outside the MatchUp — head over to the EveryBridge™ Hub, choose The Flock™ or EveryBridge™ assessment, and take it there.

Once you've taken the assessment, come back and tell Queen Opal what you found out.

        Which assessment did you take?

        What's your primary Flock™ style?

A small percentage of people see themselves equally in all four Flock™ members. If that's you:

Which one do you lean toward most, depending on the situation?

Name one person in your life who shares your Flock™ style.

“It is often easier to communicate with people who share your style. But the real growth happens when you learn the other three.”~Queen Opal

Activity 8 — Choose Your Character & Companion

Now that your Flock™ style is revealed, pick who you'll be for the rest of the journey — your Character (Self), and your Companion. Picking an Adult track character doesn't lock you into an Adult companion (or vice versa) — switch tracks below any time and your picks stay put.

Check Self for the character you'll play as, and Companion for who travels with you. Cooper and Spartan (the companion dogs) are Companion-only.

Activity 9 — Birds on the Wall

Click a topic card, then click a Flock™ member to see how they'd respond. View all four birds on at least 3 topics to unlock the next activity.

Click to see how each flock member would respond in each situation.

0 of 3 topics fully explored.

“Every one of those Flock™ members is in the same room. And now you know how to find them.”~Queen Opal

Which Flock™ member sounded most like you?

Which Flock™ member sounded most different from you?

        Activity 10 — What Is Self-Awareness?

“Ok, although you have your Flock™ results and summaries of the other Flock™ members, put that aside for a bit, and let's go back to basics so you have the core understanding of the model.”~Queen Opal

People often wonder: what is self-awareness? We consider it to be the following:

        • The ability to examine your own mental processes and emotional state
        • The ability to recognize yourself as an individual unique from others
        • An understanding of your own knowledge, attitudes, and opinions

Why does it matter? Here's what decades of learning through observation have found:

        • Before understanding others, you must first understand yourself and how you make decisions
        • The biggest mistake in interpersonal relationships is assuming that others think and feel the same way you do
        • People evaluate the behavior of others through the lens of their own internal standards and values

Activity 11 — What Is a Behavioral Style?

There are 4 primary behavioral styles of communication that affect how we act, think, and speak:

        • It is a predictable pattern of observable behavior or habits, well documented for 50+ years by research and thousands of individuals
        • It affects the way you do things — and how you communicate, verbally and non-verbally
        • It affects how you organize and present information
        • It determines how you build relationships
        • It determines how you approach, manage, and resolve conflict
        • It affects how you make decisions and solve problems

        How behavioral styles work:

        • Each individual has a dominant style that influences how they think, feel, behave, and perform
        • Each person has a blend of all four styles — one is typically dominant
        • There are no right or wrong behavioral styles — just different ones

        Activity 12 — The Four Flock™ Styles

        Also known as D-I-S-C.

Consider an orientation of task versus relationship — would the person prefer to be with people, or accomplish activities? Then consider direct versus indirect. Direct means the person often has a very quick response, sometimes before the question is even finished. Indirect means the person takes time to internally think through the situation before verbalizing, considering things like whether it will hurt someone else or whether their answer is correct.

Activity 13 — Core Traits by Flock™ Style

Activity 14 — Recognizing the Flock™ by Observable Behavior

You do not need to ask someone what their Flock™ style is — you can often assess it in how they walk, talk, dress, communicate, and their attention to time. The table below shows observable tendencies, not rules. For those who are visually impaired, rely more on what and how it is said. For those who are hearing impaired, rely more on what is seen.

Activity 15 — Direct vs. Indirect Communication

One of the most useful frameworks for understanding behavioral styles is the Direct/Indirect spectrum:

        • Direct: Instant thought and response — shares what is on their mind immediately
        • Indirect: Reflects on the question first before responding

How each Flock™ member processes and responds:

        • Eagle — Comes to decisions quickly and does not need all the facts. When they have heard enough, they are ready to move.
        • Peacock — Responds quickly to whatever grabs their attention. May wander from the topic or not address the real question.
        • Dove — Reflects on their answer before speaking — considering who it will affect and what relationships may be at stake.
        • Owl — Will not speak until their answer is fully thought out and technically correct. Silence is thinking, not disengagement.

Activity 16 — Your Most Challenging Flock™ Member

This is where you can easily gain the keys to whatever kingdom you are in — by understanding your most challenging Flock™ member and learning how to adapt.

Opposite pairs in the Flock™ share nothing in common — different pace, different orientation, different core motivation:

        • Eagle (task + direct) is opposite Dove (relationship + indirect)
        • Peacock (relationship + direct) is opposite Owl (task + indirect)
“The irony is that we are often drawn to our opposite Flock™ member in personal relationships, but then we expect them to act like us… As far as work & non-personal matters, if we don't understand this, that's where the conflicts come in.”~Queen Opal

Activity 17 — The Platinum Rule

        • Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
        • Platinum Rule: Treat others the way they want to be treated
        • Shifts from "this is what I would want" — to "let me first understand what YOU want"
        • You do not have to change your personality — you recognize what drives others and adjust your approach
        • Building rapport using the Platinum Rule requires thought and effort, but produces the most insightful and rewarding relationships

        Activity 18 — Communicating Across Flock™ Styles

Queen Opal welcomes you to Activity 5

Once you know another person's Flock™ Profile, you can adjust how you approach them, write to them, and support them. This is where self-awareness becomes practical.

Bonus: What Happens When an Entire Team Is the Same Flock™ Member?

Pick a Flock™ member to see what an all-Eagle, all-Peacock, all-Dove, or all-Owl team looks like in action.

Activity 19 — What Flock™ Members Are In Your Life?

For each Flock™ style, name one person from your life who fits it, and what behavior made you think of them that way.

Which of these is most challenging for you to be around?

Activity 20 — Adapting to Difficult Flock™ Members

Identify one challenging person from each area. For each, name their Flock™ style and pick one adaptation.

“It is essential that every Flock™ member in the Flock™ is respected as equal — not better or worse, just different. The most skilled communicator in any room is the one who can reach all four.”~Queen Opal

        Queen Opal's Checkpoint

Here's where you are — and what Queen Opal recommends, based on knowing what's ahead. The choice is always yours.

Can you identify all four behavioral styles, recognize them in others, and describe at least one way you will adapt your communication for your most challenging Flock™ member? Completion, not proficiency, is what unlocks Room 2.

Level 1 — Stay in the RoomStay in this room and do a bit more work. Your Flock™ members are here and they want to be found — take the time to really meet them.
Level 2 — Your ChoiceYou can stay and build your understanding a little further, or move ahead to Room 2. Your Flock™ members will travel with you — they always do.
Level 3 — No Stopping YouNo stopping you now. Queen Opal says you know your Flock™ member, you can spot the others, and you understand why the Flock™ sees the world the way it does. Room 2 is open.

Are you ready to move on, or do you need to modify any of your locked in responses?

Clears everything you've answered in Room 1 so you can start it fresh. Cannot be undone.
